Retainers for teeth are usually used as the last stage of orthodontic treatments or after braces have been removed to ensure teeth don’t shift back to their original position.

There are two general types of retainers, including removable retainers and permanently bonded retainers. Permanent retainers are usually used in the bottom teeth and will last as long as they are still attached to the mouth.

Removable retainers also last a long time and can be custom designed and usually repaired or tightened if needed.
